Travelers in Valencia received good news as the airport resumed operations after severe flooding from torrential rains led to the diversion of 12 flights. Despite the reopening, passengers are urged to confirm their flight details before heading to the airport.
The runway at Manises was closed late on September 16 due to intense rainfall, but Aena announced its reopening on the morning of September 17. Although flights can now operate, residual delays may still affect passengers traveling through this key transport hub.
Valencia Airport serves as a major international gateway, with 11.8 million passengers recorded in 2025. The UK is a significant international market, and domestic routes to Palma de Mallorca, Madrid, and Ibiza are particularly busy. Consequently, disruptions can impact both holidaymakers and residents traveling between the Valencia region and the Balearic Islands.
The closure was part of a broader weather event, with the Associació Valenciana de Meteorologia (Avamet) reporting over 100 liters of rain per square meter in several areas. Notably, Torrent experienced 95 liters per square meter by 10pm, with 71 liters falling in just 30 minutes. The storm also brought thunderstorms and winds up to 100 kilometers per hour.
