According to a study by Holidayguru, Tenerife South Airport is ranked as the fourth most stressful airport in Spain for 2026. The study, which evaluates 16 public airports using data from AENA, Airportia, and Google Maps, considers factors such as flight delays, cancellations, parking costs, and distance to the nearest city center.
While Tenerife South faces challenges with travel friction, other Canary Islands airports experience significantly lower congestion and incident rates. Tenerife South scored 50.98 out of 100 on the stress index, influenced by road travel times to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and its tourist flight operations.
In contrast, Gran Canaria Airport ranks 11th with 35.08 points, and Fuerteventura Airport is among the calmest, ranking 13th with 29.80 points due to affordable parking and fewer incidents.
Barcelona-El Prat Airport tops the list with 73.66 points, plagued by high cancellation rates, frequent delays, and expensive parking. Alicante-Elche Airport follows in second place with 62.98 points, affected by its distance from the city and parking fees. Bilbao and Santiago de Compostela airports complete the top five.
On the opposite end, Asturias and Vigo airports are the least stressful, scoring 11.68 and 17.50 points, respectively.
The study assigns scores from one to 25 for each variable, with 25 indicating the most unfavorable conditions. The total score reflects the overall stress level for travelers.
