The municipality of Granadilla de Abona has initiated the groundwork for a new modular parking facility on Tenerife Street in El Médano. This marks the island’s first venture into modular parking solutions.
To mitigate traffic disruptions, a special traffic management plan has been implemented. This includes designated routes for heavy vehicles and manual traffic control, ensuring minimal impact on local circulation.
The construction is expected to take five months, with truck movements restricted to specific hours: 09:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 16:00. The project, awarded for over 2.9 million euros, will feature a two-level structure with a walkable roof, providing more than 160 parking spaces on a 2,155 square meter plot near the local football field.
Granadilla’s Public Works and Services Councilor, Marcos Antonio Rodríguez, noted that initial steps included clearing parked vehicles from the site. The removal of debris will involve approximately fifteen trucks daily, adhering to the established traffic schedule. Efforts are being made to minimize inconvenience to residents, including potentially converting Tenerife Street to a one-way street temporarily to offer additional parking.
Beyond this project, the municipality is negotiating the purchase of two plots at El Médano’s entrance to create more parking areas. Discussions are focused on determining a price per square meter, with technical evaluations underway. Additional parking spaces are also planned for Trincheras.
