Unseasonably Warm Autumn Nights in the Canary Islands
The Canary Islands are experiencing unusually warm temperatures this autumn, with nighttime readings nearing summer levels. Tenerife and Las Palmas have recorded particularly high temperatures, complicating nighttime comfort.
This autumn, the Canary Islands are witnessing temperatures that feel more like summer, with many residents still waiting to bring out their winter clothing. The warmth is not just a daytime phenomenon but extends into the night as well.
In Tenerife, the first night of autumn saw temperatures nearly reaching 30 degrees Celsius, making it difficult for residents to find relief from the heat. According to data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the Tenerife South Airport station recorded 29.5 degrees at 5:50 AM.
Las Palmas experienced even hotter conditions, with nighttime temperatures exceeding 32 degrees. Across the region, temperatures ranged from 30 to 32.2 degrees, with Thursday’s forecast predicting highs of 34 degrees accompanied by light haze.
Aemet forecasts suggest a mix of medium and high clouds, with lower clouds mainly along northern coasts during the night. Isolated thunderstorms with minimal precipitation and strong wind gusts are possible, particularly in interior areas.
Temperatures are expected to rise slightly to moderately, with notable increases in the northeast’s lower areas. Highs of 34 degrees are anticipated in mid-altitude and low areas of the southeast, south, and southwest, with some southern and northern metropolitan areas potentially reaching 37 degrees. Minimum temperatures will remain around 26 degrees in the southeast’s interior.
Winds will be light to moderate from the northeast in low areas and from the east in mid-altitudes. At higher elevations of Mount Teide, moderate southern winds are expected, with breezes prevailing along the western coasts.
The current warm spell in the Canary Islands, particularly in Tenerife, is an important consideration for potential property buyers and investors.
