Santa Cruz de Tenerife's local government can now directly authorize certain works on historic properties, reducing bureaucratic delays.
Property owners in Santa Cruz de Tenerife’s historic districts can now benefit from a more efficient process for obtaining permits for specific works. The local government has reached an agreement with the island’s Historical Heritage department, allowing the city to directly grant permissions that previously required a lengthy review process.
Urban Planning Councilor Zaida González highlighted that this change aims to significantly cut down the time required for permit approvals, which previously involved multiple steps and could take weeks. The new process is expected to reduce waiting times by up to a month.
This initiative applies to properties in protected areas, including those built after 1960, and covers a range of activities such as interior renovations, facade painting in specific colors, and solar panel installations on non-visible roofs. It also allows for changes in property use, provided they don’t involve structural changes.
The city will also have the authority to manage certain public space interventions, including temporary events and the installation of restaurant terraces, under specific conditions.
