Travel Agencies Convene in Canary Islands to Boost Tourism
A major gathering of travel agencies in the Canary Islands highlights the region's strategic importance in the tourism sector. The event brought together industry leaders to discuss connectivity and business opportunities.
The Canary Islands recently hosted a significant gathering of travel agencies, underscoring the region’s pivotal role in the tourism industry. Nearly 200 travel agencies, along with over 50 companies, airlines, and tourism representatives, participated in the CEAV Protour event held in Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
Organized by the Spanish Confederation of Travel Agencies (CEAV) and the Canary Islands Association of Travel Agencies and Tour Operators (ACAVyT), the event received strong support from the Canary Islands government and Tenerife Tourism. This initiative has reinforced the islands’ status as a key stop in their professional tour across Spain.
The event provided local professionals with access to a wide range of products without leaving the archipelago, focusing on challenges related to air and sea connectivity. CEAV President José Manuel Lastra emphasized the importance of direct engagement with the Canary market due to its unique insular characteristics. ACAVyT President Ignacio Poladura highlighted the potential for new business avenues through these meetings.
Key figures such as José Manuel Sanabria, Deputy Minister of Tourism for the Canary Islands, and Dimple Melwani, CEO of Tenerife Tourism, attended the event. They acknowledged the crucial role of agencies in promoting the destination and connecting with travelers.
The 2026 edition of the CEAV Protour tour featured top-tier representations, with Aragón named as the Premium National Destination, Germany as the Premium European Destination, and Abu Dhabi as the international highlight. The tour, having visited cities like Zaragoza, Granada, Valencia, and A Coruña, will conclude in Bilbao after its dual stop in the islands.
The recent gathering of travel agencies in the Canary Islands underscores the region's strategic importance in the tourism industry. For property investors, this highlights the islands' growing appeal as a tourist destination, which can drive demand for vacation rentals and other real estate opportunities. The focus on improving connectivity also suggests potential infrastructure developments that could enhance property values. Staying informed about such events can provide valuable insights into market trends and investment opportunities.
