Marbella is set to host its annual walking festival from October 1 to 4, attracting approximately 4,000 participants from nearly twenty countries. This event, now in its fifteenth year, offers walkers the chance to explore 10km, 20km, and 30km routes that showcase the town’s diverse landscapes, from the historic old town to the picturesque Sierra Blanca foothills.
The festival, which originated in the Netherlands, has become a significant international gathering on the Spanish coast. Each day, walkers will start and finish at a central location near the seafront, where they can enjoy live music and food stalls, creating a lively festival atmosphere. The closing stretch, known as the ‘Via Gladiolo,’ celebrates the participants’ achievements with a symbolic flower.
This year’s event is expected to generate between 20,000 and 25,000 overnight stays, providing a welcome boost to local businesses during the quieter autumn season. The festival also pays tribute to its late founder, Hans Wohl, whose vision helped grow the event into one of Spain’s largest walking festivals.
