Canary Islands Boosts Funding for Young Homebuyers

The Canary Islands government has enhanced its housing support program, now assisting 529 young homebuyers with a total budget exceeding 4.5 million euros. This expansion includes an additional 1.5 million euros, allowing more applicants to benefit, increasing the initial number of beneficiaries by 159.

The application period, which ended previously, was available to individuals under 35 who purchased existing homes for their main residence. Properties could be located anywhere within the archipelago, with price limits set at 170,000 euros on the main islands and 200,000 euros on the smaller islands or for larger families. These changes aim to improve access to homeownership for young people.

Eligible recipients can receive up to 11,000 euros, not covering taxes or extra costs. Although the application phase is closed, the increased funding and revised price ceilings reflect the government’s commitment to aiding young residents in securing property in the Canary Islands. This move is likely to influence demand and pricing, particularly in areas with capped property values, as more young buyers enter the market.
